What Questions Should I Ask During My Surgery Consultation?

Posted in Patient Resources

What to expect during your consultationWhen you are considering plastic surgery, you are probably a bit nervous. Reading through online forums can be unnerving and confusing. The best way to get the most accurate information about your particular procedure is to ask questions during your consultation. With so much on your mind, it can be hard to determine which ones you should ask. North Shore Aesthetics always wants our patients to feel completely comfortable and totally informed prior to their procedure. Here are a few questions that you should ask during your surgery consultation.

What Is Your Experience with This Procedure?

Knowing that the physician doing the procedure is experienced and knowledgeable in this area is key. Not only will you learn about your doctor, but it will make you much more comfortable the day of, knowing that you are in capable hands.

How Long Is the Recovery Period?

Part of successful procedures is planning for before, during, and after your procedure. You will need to know how long you may be off of work, any lifting restrictions, and how long you should plan to be home-bound.

What Anesthesia Will Be Used?

If you are being sedated during your procedure, you will want to touch base with the anesthesiologist about the type of drugs that will be used. Check over your medical history to ensure nothing will be contradicted. If you have questions about your medical history, consult with your general practitioner about what type of anesthetic that should be avoided.

What Realistic Results Can I Expect?

When you go over your goals with your surgeon, ask about the realistic results you can expect from the procedure. While medical technology has progressed significantly, there are still some results that are not realistic to expect. Your surgeon can inform you of what he can achieve.
