Microdermabrasion is a nonsurgical, noninvasive procedure performed on many areas of the body including; the face, neck, chest, hands and arms. The procedure offers a safe way to gently remove the surface layers of dead skin. In the spa we perform what is known as crystal free Microdermabrasion, which means that a diamond tip is used during the procedure that leaves no residue of crystals on the skin as seen with systems using crystals. The benefit of this type of system is that the crystal residue can be messy and can irritate the nasal passage and mouth and eyes if any enters these areas during or after the procedure. The newer technology was created to improve the treatment and avoid the nuisance of the crystals. Microdermabrasion can be performed on clients of all ages and skin types, and can even be used on acne prone skin. Our system allows the Licensed Esthetician to set the level of aggressiveness of the treatment to customize the service based on the condition of the skin. The benefits of microdermabrasion are numerous, but the most noticeable is the smooth, fresh rejuvenated appearance of the skin. It may also improve tone, reduce acne breakouts, help with pore size, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with sessions every 4 to 6 weeks. The treatment is not painful, and has no downtime. Clients may experience some mild redness, which often goes away when hydration cream and sunblock are applied to finish the treatment.
Microdermabrasion can be performed as a stand-alone treatment, or in combination with a facial, peel or laser service. There is a benefit to having microdermabrasion just prior to these other services in that it removes the top layer of dead skin, thus allowing the facial, peel or laser to better penetrate into the skin. It is common for our clients to have Microdermabrasion in junction with their monthly services, especially on the face and chest. There is a price discount for Microdermabrasion when it is added to a facial, peel or laser service on the same area. We also occasionally run a special on the stand-alone microdermabrasion treatment, which still includes some cleansing prior, and the application of a soothing cream or serum following the procedure. It can also include some application of mineral make-up to cover any redness. Microdermabrasion is one of the most frequently performed nonsurgical procedures nationwide, and is a favorite among the staff and clients of the spa.
