Say Goodbye to Excessive Sweating

Posted in BOTOX® Cosmetic

A little sweat is nothing to fear, right? Unfortunately, a “little” sweat is not what worries individuals that have hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive sweating of the underarms, hands, and feet, as these areas have a high concentration of sweat and odor glands. Sweating is our body’s natural way to regulate temperature, but for those with hyperhidrosis, this mechanism does not work, and the body produces more sweat than necessary. While hyperhidrosis may be a reaction to a more severe condition such as a tumor, diabetes, gout, hyperthyroidism, or obesity, it can also occur with no prerequisite and can cause lasting damage to an individual’s self-esteem and confidence. Instead of feeling as though you can only wear dark clothing year-round or cannot shake anyone’s hand for fear that your own will be clammy or wet, there are procedures available to help treat hyperhidrosis so that sweat is no longer a concern.

BOTOX® Treats Excessive Sweating

While BOTOX® Cosmetic is more commonly known as the injectable treatment that minimizes the appearance of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines, BOTOX® has another purpose: treating excessive sweating. This neuromodulator works by blocking the chemicals that activate the sweat glands. However, because the body eventually metabolizes BOTOX®, it is only a temporary solution. The effects of BOTOX® for excessive underarm sweating are known to last between six months to one year before the sweat glands reactivate. Additional treatments may be performed as often as necessary to maintain results.
