4 Common Misconceptions About Plastic Surgery

Despite its growing popularity (there were over 1.7 million cosmetic surgery procedures and over 15 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in 2017), common misconceptions about plastic surgery still exist. Many people continue to see plastic surgery as something only for vain celebrities; yet in actuality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Over the years, cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive procedures have not only improved in technique and quality of results but also in increased popularity. Patients of all ages are finding themselves heading to their cosmetic surgeons for touch-up treatments and fixes of their most bothersome physical troubles. With plastic surgery hitting the mainstream, it’s time to clear up those lingering misconceptions.

1. It’s Only for Women

There is no denying that plastic surgery is more heavily marketed to women than it is to men. Social media and advertising companies often forget or ignore the fact that cosmetic procedures help men regain confidence in their appearance the same as they do for women. In fact, over 100,000 surgical procedures were performed on men last year. Facelift surgery, tummy tuck surgery, blepharoplasty, and liposuction are all common surgical procedures for men that allow them to shape and tone their bodies and revitalize their appearance while improving their level of self-esteem.

2. It’s Only for Vanity

It’s true that cosmetic surgery is designed to enhance physical appearances that are bothersome to patients; every person should be allowed to look and feel their best. That being said, many cosmetic surgery procedures go beyond aesthetics. Many rhinoplasty patients seek plastic surgery to improve breathing, and many blepharoplasty patients desire a lift in their eyelids to open their field of vision to help them see better. Additionally, many patients who have lost a significant amount of weight feel trapped by the excess amount of skin left over, which is not only aesthetically displeasing but also physically discomforting. Many women who have developed naturally large breasts understand the pain and physical limitations of their breast size. While some patients are led to plastic surgery for purely aesthetic reasons, this is a generalization that no longer applies.

3. It’s Only for People Who Are “Lazy”

Procedures like liposuction are often thought to be weight loss procedures for patients who are lazy; however, there is no truth in that statement. For starters, liposuction, along with every other form of cosmetic surgery, is not a weight loss procedure, nor is it a substitute for diet and exercise. Instead, it is a way to eliminate those final troublesome areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. With pregnancies, weight fluctuations, and aging comes stubborn fat pockets that cannot be toned, no matter how much sweat you put into it. Plastic surgery isn’t for people who are lazy; rather, it’s for people who have put in the effort but still need a little help.

4. The Expense Puts It Out of Reach

Cosmetic surgery is a substantial financial investment. It is something that many patients need to save and budget for; however, it isn’t out of reach. In 2017 alone, Americans spent over $8.5 billion on cosmetic procedures, and the majority of those patients were people just like you. No matter your age, gender, or financial situation, cosmetic procedures can be for you if you want them. There are no limitations when it comes to the desire to look and feel your best.

Get a Full Yet Natural Look With Allergan’s Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants

Allergan has recently released one of the best breast implants available today. These implants are called Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants and were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just last fall. The INSPIRA® Implants give women the chance to choose high-quality implants that produce the fullest roundness for the greatest results.

Breast Augmentation Before and After Photos

What You Need to Know

These new implants accompany an already well-stocked line of implants by Natrelle from Allergan, which is a multi-national pharmaceutical company and one of the leading providers of breast implants. What sets the new implants apart from the rest? Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants are made of a highly cohesive silicone gel with a high gel-fill ratio. Sometimes called “gummy bear implants” because they hold their shape even when cut, these implants are particularly resistant to tissue compression or distortion and can maintain their shape for many years without rupturing. The Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants are made with the fullest roundness of any implants yet, and they also have a reduced risk of implant irregularities, rippling, and rupturing. As a measure of assurance to those concerned about safety, the new Natrelle INSPIRA® implants have been approved by the FDA, which means they have been through extensive evaluations to determine their safety for use. Lastly, the Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants are made with a soft feel and are available in multiple sizes, profiles (projections), and textures.

How These New Implants Could Benefit You

If you have yet to undergo breast augmentation because you haven’t yet found the right “fit,” now may be the perfect time to do so. The Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants are made to help women with a variety of body shapes and have achieved great popularity already among women across the country. These implants are especially beneficial for women who identify with the following criteria:

  • Need shape correction
  • Have thin breast tissue
  • Have limited lower breast pole fullness
  • Are undergoing breast reconstruction

The Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants offer supreme shape correction with a limited chance of rippling and long-lasting results. Their beautifully full and round results do not compromise the feel and can give women improved breast fullness with a natural appearance and feel.

Dr. Benjamin Schlechter is offering the Natrelle INSPIRA® Round Gel Breast Implants here at his practice to help patients achieve the best results from breast augmentation surgery. The IDEAL IMPLANT® for Breast Augmentation

IDEAL IMPLANT®The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is a new advancement in saline implant technology. It offers an innovative, new option for patients desiring saline implants rather than silicone gel implants.  Many patients still have concerns regarding silicone gel implants even though prospective and retrospective studies show them to be safe. The IDEAL IMPLANT® is an alternative saline implant that is filled with saltwater but has the feel of a silicone gel implant. This implant is very different from the traditional saline implant.

The  IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant has a more natural feel due to the internal structure of the implant rather than from what it is filled with. This implant has a natural look and feel despite being filled with saline. The internal structure controls the movement of saline to eliminate the fluid wave effect or water-hammer effect which can be noticeable with traditional saline implants. There is no sloshing. Traditional saline implants tend to have an increased incidence of wrinkling and rippling. Due to the structure of the IDEAL IMPLANT®, the risk of wrinkling and rippling is significantly reduced. Traditional saline implants tend to collapse at the upper pole due to the gravitational movement of saline to the lower aspect of the implant. Due to its internal structure, the IDEAL IMPLANT® does not collapse when the implant is upright.

As with traditional saline implants, the IDEAL IMPLANT® is placed through a smaller incision than silicone gel breast implants, which results in a smaller potential scar. Also, due to the saline, the volume of the implant is adjustable within a certain amount to help correct mildly asymmetric breasts. The edge of the implant conforms to the contour of the woman’s chest.

One of the concerns with silicone gel implants is the risk of silent rupture. The advantage of the IDEAL IMPLANT® is that women will know the implant is intact simply by looking in the mirror. In the event of a rupture or leak, an MRI is not necessary.

The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is a nice alternative for women seeking breast augmentation surgery who desire the feel of a silicone gel implant but do not want silicone gel implants and do not want the less natural feel of a traditional saline implant.
